Finely-crafted harp-centered folk rock enlivened by a varied bindle of wide-ranging allusions and dazzling figurative language. The sophomore release from Stanford alum and East Coast native, Lizzie No. Lyrics are poetic and stretched taut with emotional resonance. Arrangements are delicately-whittled and effortlessly blend elements of Country, Blues, and Alt Rock into a unique, contemporary sound.
FCC on 2. TRY 1, 7, 3, or 8.
RIYL: First Aid Kit, Sharon Van Etten, Courtney Marie Andrews, Brandi Carlile
(*1.) (4:26) Triumphant lead single. Polished and poetic breakup rocker with a nice layered wall of sound and a gripping immediacy (2.) (3:45) (FCC) Fuzzed-out aggressive Country rocker (*3.) (3:31) Gentle harp intro transitioning into a rootsy jaunt (4.) (3:16) Atmospheric. Classic Country iconography and smooth, austere vocals. Wistful. Brightly flicked harp with minimal percussion and subtle fuzzed-out guitar flourishing (5.) (3:44) Lonely, meditative. Harp-forward with somber, reflective vocals (6.) (3:57) Swingy, strummy. Sugarsweet vocals, airy melodies, and a killer guitar solo (*7.) (3:17) Intricately-arranged love ballad with standout strings, guitar and harp. A panoply of varying textures accented by cleverly interspersed harmonics and pizzicato. Vulnerable goosebump-inducing vocals floating above rumbling drums and marching cellos (*8.) (3:38) Lilty acoustic strumming with piano and upright bass elements. Conversational, singsong vocals (9.) (4:42) Upbeat, jangly Country rock with sizzlin’ violin accompaniment
