ALT FOLK-ROCK / SINGER-SONGWRITER
Australian songwriter Martin Frawley has created an ambitious concept album that somewhat chronologically relates the story of his life falling apart (at age 31) after a long romantic relationship. Lyrics are in booklet, but not in the right order.
No FCC issues
1 * Mid-tempo. First relationship (aged 22-30) ends in disillusion. Folkish, talk-sung. (4:52)
2 Mid-fast. Hitting the bar scene. Cynical. Raucous. Guitar, drums, lots of piano. (4:01)
3 * Fast. Good rocking song. Fuzzy lead guitar, drums, piano. A bit Lou Reed-ish. (3:00)
4 ** Mid-tempo. Reminiscing about her. They were great together; or not. (4:13)
5 Mid-tempo. He was really close with her family, and that ended too, of course. (3:12)
6 Mid-tempo. Oblique retelling of a fight on a date (I think). (3:06)
7 ** Mid-slow. Half-hearted words of encouragement (directed to her or himself?) (4:29)
8 * Mid-fast. Blurry singing but good instruments including good synth and violin. (3:00)
9 Mid-slow. Country guitar. Talk-sung. Found out she’s dating someone else. (2:01)
10 Slow. Losing it. Pleading hopeless for her return. Strange instrumentation. (5:06)
11 Slow. Spare. Gloomy. Spooky steel guitar solo toward the end. (3:22)
