Growing Up, the debut record the Linda Lindas, is a hybrid of power pop, hard rock, alternative rock, and punk with flecks of post-punk. Close your eyes and its not hard to imagine these songs emerging from any number of great groups, like Tegan and Sara, Sleater-Kinney or Best Coast. In May 2021, the young punk band got their own taste of internet fame with a filmed performance of their song “Racist, Sexist Boy.” ‘Growing Up’ is the debut album by LA teen punks The Linda Lindas, and, in their hands, those two words are anything but a cliché. It can be easy to forget the intricacies of growing up: sure, we remember the personal and existential questioning and the painful or embarrassing lessons, but do we also remember facing all of that with intelligence, resilience and open-heartedness? To hear all of this across an album made by those actually in the thick of it is immensely valuable.
