In this second release, BLH eschews traditional compositions for all original material and a slightly more experimental sound. As with recent disks by Sierra Ferrell and Jake Xerxes Fussell, RGH mixes old and new to create a unique, timeless sound. The trio's triple threat is comprised of not one, but two, sublime vocalists (Anais Mitchell and Eric Johnson aka Fruit Bats), a multi-instrumentalist virtuoso (Josh Kaufman from Muzz) and Kaufman's masterful arranging that combines traditional folk instrumentation with a jazzy sax, fuzzed guitars and synths. This might sound like an odd mix but these three Americana masters pull it off in wonderful style.
