For those unfamiliar with the band, The Aislers Set are excellent local retro-popsters. I would describe their sound as ranging from 60s-style pop (think Phil Spector) to more modern indie pop (think Heavenly, Henry's Dress). Typical songs are short and sweet without being too cutesy. This album marks a slight departure for the band. There are some minimal and dark moments here. This new direction worked for me, but there are also a lot of choice pop songs to play if you're not partial to the band's new direction. Highly recommended!!!
*1*-one of my favorite tracks, glockenspiel?, handclaps, and harmonies make this a layered and dreamy pop masterpiece
2-pretty minimal, just vocals, bass, and percussion; church choir-like vocal harmonies chime in at the end
*3*-a relatively more rockin' tune; pure guitar pop heaven with harmonies at choruses
*4*-another gem; cool guitar melody with increasingly complex vocal harmonies; brass and tambourine join in to liven things up
*5*-lovely; plodding guitar and toy-like piano accompany soft vocals; sleigh bells and harmonies add depth
6-this reminds me of the last album; guitars, brass, beautiful harmonies, piano; starts with a simple guitar melody and builds from there
7-very retro, very Phil Spector; cute vocal harmonies accompanied by strummed guitars and organ
*8*-the "experimental" tune; glockenspiel, guitar reverb, minimal piano, interesting percussive noises leading to a lot of tempo changes; short
9-this sounds like Henry's Dress; fuzzy guitars and vocal harmonies; more chaotic but with a distinct pop sensibility
10-the most minimal track; subdued female vocals and barely there guitar; sad and sweet
11-bass and intermittently off-key female vocals with a simple beat; dissonant brass joins in at points; things improve as pseudo-surfy guitars and handclaps join the fray
