Sandman – The Long Ride Home
Chris Sand (AKA Sandman) is known as the "rappin’ cowboy". But there’s not much rappin’ at all on this album, other than sampling a bit of LL Cool J on the first track, it’s more in the vein of folk/country songwriters like Woody Guthrie or Richard Buckner. Mostly voice and guitar, occasionally drums and fiddle. Despite the lack of rappin’, he writes some good songs about the usuals: heartbreak, isolation, being poor, getting your email cut off, cell phones getting stolen. Country music enters the 21st century!
PICS: 1,3, 4, 11, 12, 14
1. country + hip-hop samples/mixing
2.sad slow ballad
3. somewhat leonard cohen-esque
4. lament about email getting cut off
5. end of love—voice/guitar, bit of drums
6. 9/11 tribute
7. slow, heartbreak
8. short (:40)
9. worn down, no one understands
10. a capella – old cowboy song
11. sad, guitar + cello, weird warbling voice
12. email cut off (again), cell phone stolen
13. more heartbreak
14. mid – banjo, more energy
15. MLK tribute
