Prefuse 73
One Word Extinguisher
This band is the future of something or other. Their first release was marked by deconstructed raps that were chopped up and spliced like notes to create glitchy electronica. The songs on here vary in flavor from experimental to melodic downtempo, all with a chill loungey hip-hop feel. Sometimes it sounds a little over-polished to me. There’s less vocal texture, but I like it a lot when it appears (as on track 2). This is glitchy crunchy tweaky hip-hop flavored electronica, and nearly every track is worth playing. Highlights are 2, 3, 5, 9, 10, 11 (though unclean), 18, 21, 23.
.Short intro track, leads well into 2
.Kickass classic prefuse 73 choppy rap electronica with piano.
.Nice science rap track with glitchy techno backdrop.
.Glitchy loungey IDM.
.The signature chopped vocals (female, this time), plus horns and of course bleeps and glitches aplenty.
.Starts with long phone message sample. Ending vocal medley is cool.
.Abrasive and glitchy beats, yet very downtempo and loungey.
.Funny movie dialogue sample.
.Hip-hop style beats and spliced in sample textures.
.Big beats. More straight ahead and melodic.
.Snatches of orgasmic moan sounds, but good! One of the samples might say “fuck you,” I can’t quite tell. Ends strong with funny samples.
.Short so-so rap track.
.Blatant “fuck.” Decent glitch track otherwise.
.Cheesy house-ish female vocals on a glitch mess.
.Moderately funky speech sample
.A low-key downtempo song. Washed out sax.
.Atmospheric interlude
.Rough buzzing synths, glittery glitches.
.Well crafted, very chill track. Driving beat, clicks.
.Again, chill, long speech sample at the end
.A good downtempo track, uses vocal samples to good effect.
.Cool answering machine medley.
.Very pretty. Female voices are chopped into a new melody.
