Melodic, mellow math rock. What makes this extremely unique, is that like most math rock there aren’t many vocals (only on track #1) but this band uses political samples, samples of 9/11, the news and protests to go along with their emotional, melodic math rock. Sounds a bit like the mellow side of Mogwai but with samples. Sometimes the rhythm section sounds like Fugazi’s rhythm section while the guitar noodles and other times the music is mellower and more melodic. Recorded by Tim Green of the Fucking Champs
**1. Wow! This track goes all over the place taking you through many emotions. Starts with guitar harmonics and samples of the news. When the drums come pounding in there is more of a hopeful sound but then the vocals are strangely sung, almost screamed and the song picks up into full on math rock. Samples from 9/11 and then the song picks up the pace a little bit more and the guitar noodles a bit and then the tracks rocks out and goes through about 3 more changes. The song almost gets heavy towards the end.
**2. The very beginning of this track sound like indie rock but then it quickly mellows out, guitar noodles a bit and samples are thrown in. The track really gets moving halfway through and really could be Fugazi jamming.
3. Starts with a sample with one Fuck). Then simple beat and pretty simple guitar riff. It does sound nice, but really doesn’t go anywhere.
4. Hard one to describe the differences. The guitar noodles a bit then everything changes, the drums get busy and the guitar gets angular. About 5 minutes in there are screamed vocals in the background.
5. Very different. Electronic drums that boarder on drum-n-bass, quieter guitars and keyboards.
**6. Starts very quiet but gets into a nice repetitive guitar riff. About 3 minutes in the track gets much faster and rocks out.
7. Sounds like a poem to start and when the drums kick in they are both acoustic and electronic. The electronic drums sound cheap. This song goes through LOTS of changes.
Great stuff. -mph
