Lovely, soulful, feel-good music by Ugandan musician Samite. Soft male vox, kalimba (Kenyan thumb piano that sounds like xylophone) and traditional percussion feature prominently in all tracks, yet the feel is modern and evocative. I loved the whole CD, but especially #s 1, 3, and 10.
Track 1: Swishing melody that reflects (according to the linear notes), the “free spirit of childhood”
Track 2: Beautiful flute refrain with repetitive chanting in the background.
Track 3: Poignant guitar riffs+ soft male vox with choir. Read the liner notes for the exceptionally touching background of this song.
Track 4: Uptempo with infectious rhythm.
Track 5: Traditional dance song with Afro beats, flute, and guitar.
Track 6: slow flute piece with nature/landscape sounds in background. Beautiful!
Track 7: Very short song with male vox (no instruments). Sounds like Acapella.
Track 8: Similar to 4, catchy and traditional.
Track 9: beautiful gospel music with guitar.
Track 10: Dancey flute refrain textured by strong percussion. Similar to 2 (but fatser tempo).
Track 11: Slow guitar + male vox. Minimalistic and tender.
Track 12,13: Similar to 5.
Track 14: Short instrumental piece performed on the kalimbe.
