clogs - lullaby for sure
i'm certainly no expert on classical music but i like rachel's, so i thought i'd give this cd a try. well, if you like rachel's, you'll like clogs. similar neo-classical elements with some unexpected surprises here and there. all in all, a beautiful and interesting album that definitely did not put me to sleep, contrary to the album title. great for when you have lots to think about but need a soundtrack to go with your thoughts. go for 4, 5, 4&5 together, or 8.
! 1 - (2:28) slow guitar strums, occasional percussion with a slight build-up towards the end.
!! 2 - (5:38) tinkling notes, then booming bassoon(?) and frantic strings. around 1:30, strings slow the whole track down. ends the same way it starts.
!! 3 - (5:41) male spoken word taken from an australian broadcast. plus some weird high-pitched whining instrument and percussion that at times sound like it belongs to a more world music-oriented album.
!!! 4 - (3:05) this reminds me of one of those chase scenes where a detective is trying to stealthily follow someone who walks fast but every so often, needs to pretend to tie his shoes or something. i really like this.
!!! 5 - (2:01) almost like a continuation of #4 because the two tracks flow right into each other. this one has beautifully sad strings. i am a sucker for beautiful sad strings.
!! 6 - (7:04) fast and fluttery. fits the title ("swarms") perfectly.
! 7 - (3:21) kind of a playful for the first half, then gets ominous. like a clown turning evil.
!!! 8 - (5:02) female vocals written and sung by padma newsome, main composer of album and violinist. a darkly beautiful track.
!! 9 - (5:19) quietly urgent. around ~4:00, you can almost say they're rocking out.
! 10 - (7:37) a mix of everything. it almost feels like a soundtrack to a short silent movie.
!! 11 - (3:35) almost like a violin/viola solo.
