Spawned from the 90s underground LA music scene, Alex Gordon dabbled with obscure, psychedelic electronic sounds. The Dead Men is a collaboration between Alex Gordon and Edward "Word" Sterrett, whom he met on tour for his solo debut album, Small Craft Warnings, which hit the Top 10 at CMJ 200 and RPM. The team released this self-titled EP, which only offers listeners a small taste of what’s to come.
The Dead Men offers deep, almost trancey melodies that imprint feeling responses onto your brain. You are instilled with senses of comfortable sadness, smooth mellow beats that make you want to sit on a couch and veg out, you reflect and you daydream. Some of the music is almost meditative in nature, however the beats always offer the choice of vegging and being reflective, or getting up and dancing like a flower child in streets of chaos, mellow and untouched.

1. Candy: Reminds me of driving alone on an open, deserted, two-lane highway with the convertible top down (7). 2. Dead Man: Good steady beat with lots of guitar distortion; sense of bitter accomplishment; 15 seconds of guitar reverb for outro (7). 3. Powder Blue: Lighter, spacey beat than the previous tracks; haunting vocal effects; sense of sadness; LONG outro – 30 seconds total, last 10 are silence (8). 4. Compromise: Kind of groovy electro beats; soft, seductive vocals (8). 5. Powder Blue Reprise: Instrumental; an extension of track three but a little darker; sense of reflection on sadness (7).
