Pleasurecraft – Lost Patterns – Self Release

Decent album of electronic pop with obvious 80’s influences (Duran Duran, Styx, Talking Heads on a track or two? – not too well-versed in this genre). It’s not spectacular but also isn’t bad if you’re looking to play this kind of music.
I liked the more rock-leaning tracks such as 1, 6, 9 which tend to be more chill and down-tempo. For high-energy, 80’s sound try 2. 5 is similar but less high-strung. I knew based on the length of 10 that it would be instrumental and that I would like it, and that’s how it turned out; check that out too.

1. * (4:27) – Mid-tempo, even rock/electronic mix w/ some 80’s feel. Heavy bass intro into light, Zero 7 electronics, then rock guitar work and vocals about 1 min. in.
2. (3:52) – Up-tempo, energetic, very 80’s-feeling. Starts immediately w/ electronics, then drums, then guitar riff. Very 80’s vocals added.
3. (3:46) – Dark, heavy, industrial rock with explicit lyrics. Just kidding. Down-tempo plea for love “Come closer” – cheesy lyrics and music.
4. (4:08) – Energetic, mid-tempo about relationship gone bad. Starts right in with electronic melody. At times, lyrics feel random and unrelated.
5. * (3:53) – Starts with heavy female breathing (sexual implication - is that FCC?). Mostly up-tempo, sometimes choppy mid-tempo. Subdued feeling overall.
6. * (5:30) - Down-tempo, rock feel through bass and vocals. Starts with heavy bass rumble, then tambourine, clapping later on. Fewer electronics than other tracks.
7. (4:06) – Down-tempo, rock w/ nicely done electronics. 80’s pop vocals – straightforward “I need you” song.
8. (4:34) – Mid-tempo, somewhat generic track. Starts with spacey electronic noise and heavy bass. Pop feel: simple electronic riff drives song w/ basic overlays. Coolest part is the percussion.
9. * (4:34) – Same length as # 8! Airy vocals with harmonies. Moments of nice instrumentation (better than other tracks) w/ decent electronics. Cool rock feel towards the end.
10. * (1:34) – Nice, liquid, electronic instrumental. Very cool, maybe a good sound-bed, especially for a talk-show break.
11. (6:28) – Electronics have a more upbeat feel tempered by occasional dark elements and low-key vocals that creates a sense suppressed energy. *Watch the false ending w/ 1:35 left!* Last minute and a half is a nice, chill electronic sound-piece.
