Tunes From Toxic Terrain: WFMU Live From New Jersey (coll)
An excellent set of live performances in the WFMU studios, with an incredible range of artists and styles: Indie pop, straight–up rock, hip-hop, punk, bossa-nova, gospel, jazz, etc, etc, etc.. If you can’t find anything on here to play on your show, you probably shouldn’t be on the air.
Disc 1:
1. 30 sec of inane banter, followed by rocknroll w/ m/f screamed vox
*2. Nice indie-hop
**3. Slow rock groove with crazy breakdown
4. Punk rock
*5. French (Canadian) fast rock
6. English singer-songwriter
**7. Spare, pretty bossa-nova
*8. Velvet Underground style folk/psych
**9. Slow & weird psych about high school love. Awesome!
*10. Psych folk singer-songwriter
**11. Gospel blues.. Amen! *14. Bluesy acoustic “Indie scene” satire
*12. N.O. style funky parade jazz 15. Epic rocknroll
*13. Pretty country m/f duet
Disc 2:
**1. Old school sultry love ballad
2. English indie pop
3. Electro punk
*4. Wild psych rocknroll
5. Ghost-like folky Japanese psych
6. Heavy sludge metal
*7. Angular Deerhoof guitar
*8. Acapella Nordic chorus (30 sec of intro blather to start)
9. Experimental guitar freakout
*10. Lofi garage rock
*11. Wild 80s-synth surf
12. Loong intro, then bluesy noodling
**13. Nice acoustic instrumental
*14. Mournful Russian folksong
15. Cool Eastern European bounce. FCC: prominent “fuck”
