Pussy Galore broke ground with NYC garbage-can swamp rock in the early 80’s. Into the 90’s some members went on to take the junkie-swamp a step further with Royal Trux while Jon Spencer spawned grandstanding blues-garage. RTX is what remains of the female half of Trux, Jennifer Herrema, and the sound is swaggering “blues rock metal grit” distorto fucked up female vocs with moments of 70’s epic rock (think Joan Jett on acid and black tar). About as messed up and bizzarro as might be expected, I think I like this more than anything I’ve heard since Pussy G. cuz the songs are more cohesive, in your face rock, without depending on the whole “oh you’re not a NYC junkie-artist so you wouldn’t understand” overtone. Though it might help if you were anyway. Or at least an aging one.
1) mid paced hip grinding swagger
2) FCC- quick almost inaudible “fuck”, slow heavy Joan Jett feel 3) glammier 70’s rock feel, almost noodly
4) noise collage, looped samples
5) weird triplet beat, electro feel and treatments
6) oh dear! A vocoder, slow beat, truly bizarre in its corporate feel, almost a spoof
7) Joan Jett 70’s sass rock feel, but heavy
8) big ass 70’s rock beat and guitar
9) upbeat, melodic, almost pop, unnerving
10) quite different with male vocs, 70’s indie pop, pretty forgettable
11) I almost didn’t get the joke, I think this is a sick twisted poke at Madonna or the like, truly bizarre 80’s disco pop feel, whoa, with funkadelic samples
