OK class, today we are going to listen to HARD drum n bass. Good lord. Some background: Fabric is the biggest d’n’b club in London (so the world), where instead of sticking the d’n’b guys in the back room with a shitty soundsystem, they give them the main room every Friday and let them blow the place to smithereens. Personal note: I actually saw Andy C at Fabric in mid-2004. The moment he took over the decks, it was as though someone rang the local skinhead hotline (precipitating my departure). Needless to say he plays pretty hard. But there’s a reason why he’s one of the biggest resident DJs at the biggest d’n’b club in the WORLD. Give it a listen.
Best tracks: 7, 9, 4, and 6
NOTE: This entire 30-minute mix is done by Andy C (not DJ Hype)
Track 1: Bangin’ heavy metal feel with screeching fem vox and breakbeat intro. Pass.
Track 2: What do you say about a bassline like this? Twisted. Robotic vox sample.
Track 3: 1-minute interlude
Track 4: This is like that Spinal Tap scene where he asks “where do you go if you’re already on 10?” Well, Andy C’s got 7 more tracks, biatch. Hang on tight.
Track 5: Shouting rasta verse over absolute bomb of a bassline.
Track 6: Cool “vocoded” vocal and distorted synths. Refreshing break. NICE!!
Track 7: If the rest of the CD is too hard, listen to this. Deep & funky!
Track 8: 1-minute interlude
Track 9: GOOD GOD <gasp> the bassline! And still super catchy.
Track 10: Male vocals and a salsa-esque breakdown. Then back to the regularly scheduled programming of hard as shit drum and bass.
Track 11: Speakers haven’t blown yet? Start over at track 2 and repeat.
