Basically a carbon-copy of Stereolab, Monade (mo-NAHD) is a side project of Stereolab co-founder Laetitia Sadier. This is Monade's second album. The sound is toothache sweet French pop, with very little substance. You either love it or hate it, but Monade does a nice job.
** (1) Instantly transported me to a cafe in Paris in the sunshine. Harmonized "bap bap bap", lyrics in French, female and male voc. As sickly sweet as a chocolate bon-bon, lovely all the same.
(2) Happy tune, instrumental, 60's "Austin Powers" feel. Fem vocs chime in at 2:30, inane but cutesy.
** (3) French lyrics, slightly melancholy. Horns lend ambience.
(4) Pleasant, lyrical, not very exciting.
(5) Long, boring instrumental intro, goes into rhythmic female vocs at 2:30 that sound like a whole new track. Doesn't work so well.
(6) 30 seconds of wind noise.
(7) High pitched fem vocs, dreamy, kinda repetitive but easy to listen to.
(8) Faster tempo, some interesting melodies.
(9) Similarly pleasant, has a nice rhythmic flow. Strumming, fem French vocs.
(10) Cutesy vocals, layered. Sadly only 41 secs.
** (11) Soft and mellow. French fem vocs, synth, horns.
(12) Short fem vocalization, no words.
