The sticker said it better than I can rephrase: "Jeremy Barnes of Neutral Milk Hotel leads a band who provides a wild ride touching on gypsy music, klezmer, mariachi, Eastern European and American folk." Well, I can’t really see the American folk part. But otherwise it’s all there. Unfortunately, it’s not as strong as it could have been as the music is not interesting enough (to me, at least). Still worthwhile, check it out. Start with 4, 5, 6, 10.
1. Long exploratory dramatic mariachi winds and accordion, into delicate piano and fuzz, then super dramatic noisy part with pipes(?) and vox.
2. Mid/fast phrase repeated and varied, progresses into piano and explodes with trumpet.
3. Sad lone violin and piano, more instruments added, I’m thinking a funeral procession.
4. * More upbeat/loud tone, after slow intro, powerful *
5. ** Quiet, beautiful tune, flute-based, bells. Choir comes in “I love you” **
6. ** Klezmer and Oud, heartfelt tune. **
7. Dark percussion, accordion and klezmer, more dramatic.
8. Short, collage, interesting filler
9. Short, song-like (vox) piano ballad.
10. * Upbeat and loud, nice gypsy beat.*
11. Vox and repetitive piano, dreamy.
