Collection of works by modern composers. In general they are confident, brash.
CD 1:
1.“filled with anticipatory energy”
2. like a prelude to battle! Composer has ties to Palo Alto
3.Wandering through thickets of the psyche.
4.Very American, some of the old West, song-like
5.Gentle, patiently builds and withdraws again. Composer born in San Fran
6.Gentle, in 3/4 time “programmatic one-movement work…modified sonata”
7.Abstract. Low bells and piano. Influenced by Xeniakis
disc 2:
1.Fanfare, like it says, though to me it only sounds celebratory in the last 20secs!
2.“packed full of changing moods, orchestral color, and rhythmic vitality” Copelandish
3.A day at the circus- evocative
4.oh no! sounds like someone is having a bad day. You don’t have to take it out on us!
5.playful “jaunty and full of humor”
6.disconcerting
7.brief and self-important
