Son “a generic term covering numerous earlier musical styles,” is celebrated here by the band that has helped kept son alive. On this release, they pay tribute to the great son bands/composers of the past. From the early days (before horns were included), up through the Latin jazz bands of the 50s. This is great stuff, extremely solid throughout with tight arrangements, great performances, and lots of catchy energy. Play it all. And dance, you lazy DJs!
*1. Midtempo blend of horns/perc/vocals w/a nice tripping beat.
2. Relaxed lament of a tired field worker. Nice horns/vox.
*3. Fun & dishy little retro dance. Lazy & so smooth.
*4. A beautiful, romantic ballad. Oh Paco, you devil, you!
5. Downtempo, Afro-Cuban beat, great horns & vox. Yum.
6. Midempo sway w/a lazy feeling. Nice perc/vocal duet.
*7. Bright horns/perc/vox. Nicely energetic dance.
*8. Piano/perc/vocal intro into a sweet/sexy rumba.
9. Playful & jazzy, midtempo & delicious.
*10. Sinfully romantic bolero, beautifully sung. Sigh…
11. Sly & subtly sexy rumba w/a great horns.
12. A lazy, catchy sound w/a hot afternoon feeling.
13. Sharp horns, cool percussion, voices. Midtempo.
14. Soaring vocals, joyful midtempo energy, horns. Oh yes…
