Cinemechanica - The Martial Arts
Mathy Modern Post-punk. They claim to be able to “wtfpwn your house party” and talk shit on the Mars Volta, not bad signs. Dualing guitars, guitars often sound a lot like Fall of Troy, but without the emo. Vocals sound like Hot Snakes/Drives Like Jehu. *All FCC Clean.* Tracks 8, 3.
1. Great heavy intro leads to intense yelling vocals. [2:00]
2. More shouty vocals over dualing guitars. [2:51]
*3. Slower, building intro; more rock-indie verses (think a more laid back Milemarker) with interlocking guitar lines. Nice full ending. [3:35]
4. The “single.” Tons of tempo changes, with some more singy parts amidst the shouts. Ok, but not too thrilling. [2:27]
5. Instrumental -- rockier, less technical. Toward the end gets quieter and drummer has a party leading up to the big chord-laden finish. [5:16]
6. The freak-out song (also instrumental), with additional drums and guitars, going for the “cacophony” sound. [4:12]
7. Wailing guitars and Jehu vocals; second half descends. [3:32]
**8. Punkier vocals and a little more spirit behind the guitars -- I like it, they seem like they mean in on this one, and pull off all the things they try to get right in all the other tracks. [2:51]
9. Dualing guitars at their most Contra/Castlevania of the album. This could almost be a Minibosses song. [4:25]
