Classical duos by Schubert, Prokofiev and Kirchner, spanning nearly 2 centuries. Fascinating pieces, spot-on performances by master players. Well-worth listening to and playing. Check out the track descrips for more detail - each piece is very different from the others. Recorded live at the Marlboro Music Festival in '68, '78, and 2002. Favs 2, 3 and 6. FCC clean.
1. Flute and piano. Starts slow, dirge-like, followed by variations of the theme, varying tempi, keys, etc. The oldest piece here, 1824 –
early Romantic.
2-5. Prokofiev sonata for two violins.
*2. Sounds a bit like Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht. Quiet and eerily dissonant.
*3. YEAH. Headbanging strident violin alternating with beautiful meandering lines. GORGEOUS and slightly violent.
4. Slow, simpler, more romantic-sounding.
5. Playful and fugue-like. American-sounding harmonies, at times sounds like fiddling.
*6. Violin and piano. One big riff :). Late-romantic and multicultural sounding, like some Ravel and Granados, though composed in 2001. Cool
riffs, syncopations, play between instruments.
