Salsa Blanco – Salsa Blanco (WideHive)
Reviewed by Sadie O., 11/17/06
Latin soul/rock/jazz/funk - Salsa from right here in the Mission District. Big orchestra, big sound, great musicians, cool beats. What’s not to love?
No FCCs detected. I like 2 and 6 best, but it’s all tasty.
1. ***fast salsa with Afro-Cuban and jazz overtones and layers of sound. Lots of instrumentation, horns, vibes, etc.
2. ****slightly uptempo syncopated cha cha beat with cowbells and vocals – channeling Malo in a big way. Sweet!
3. ***Hendrix-y scratchy guitar, alto sax, then midtempo cool bop. Sounds of criminal activity in progress…
4. **slow jazz groove, pretty female vocals, almost a samba feel.
5. ***uptempo Afro-Cuban salsa, male vocals and chorus.
6. ****slow crawl, great percussion and vocal harmonies.
7. **slightly uptempo salsa instrumental.
8. **midtempo cha cha, female vocals. Baila!
9. *slow, jazzy groove that builds slowly, instrumental.
10. **downtempo piano-based mambo, very pretty.
