Collection of rare vintage R&B, soul and funk from the 1961-1973 that came out on the Detroit-based Big Mack label. None of these records sold past the first pressing. Ranges from lovey-dovey Motown-like soul songs to funk. Another great release from the Numero Group, who’s going around and collecting rare jems and releasing comps like this. Play the crap out of this disc.

My picks: most of them are winners, but: 1, 2, 7, 12, 14
1. med-fast, funky and instrumental. I love that saxophone line! Listen to the first few seconds of this one and see if you aren’t smiling and grooving along!
2. medium-tempo. classic soul sound, like a Motown tune.
3. strings and simple, if rough, drums. Smooth vocals on top of it.
4. (lo fi) james brown funk, complete with ‘good god!’
5. fast. like a more garage/ frat house version of somewhere between the Kingsmen and Sly and the Family Stone
6. funky, like something from the soundtrack to a blacksploitation movie. fast wah-ed guitar. female vox
7. soulful beginning. Med-fast. Nice interplayed male vocals with background vocals. the lead vocalist has a great tenor voice.
8. medium tempo horse-trot rhythm. Sort of sounds like a slightly more soulful Drifters
9. sultry female vocals over drums, bass, organ, guitar.
10. deep-voiced male talking with female background vocals (later lead female vox). A little bit Isaac Hayes
11. jazzy drums with horns. Ballad-tempo at the beginning and then picks up. Male vox backed with female vox and horns
12. james brown funk. ‘alright, huh!’
13. fast wah-wahed guitar. female lead vox with male backups
14. doo-wop ballad (slow). Male vox. This is the slow dance at the end of the night
15. medium tempo. classic soul sound. (Motown-ish)
16. piano-based groove with heavy horns (sax included) on top. Instrumental.
17. same as 5, but (mostly) instrumental (some vocals in the background)
18. another version of 9, but instrumental
19. another version of 10, but instrumental
