New and tasty bits from the Junior Boys, delivered in their trademark style: glitchy and smoove at the same time. No surprises here, but hey who needs them? A couple heavy hitters on the remix, especially Morgan Geist (of Metro Area fame). My own preference is for both “Equalizer” mixes over the title track, but give it a listen for yourself…and dig up their last release “Last Exit” while you’re at it! Best: tracks 3 & 4.
Track 1: Title track. Broken drums, some clean guitar, plenty of synth stabs. Junior Boys going for a “sha-la-la” singalong vibe.
Track 2: Deep and minimal remix of the title track. 4x4 house beat. FYI Alex Smoke is a well-regarded house producer in UK circles.
*Track 3: This is what you think of when you think of Junior Boys. Stuttered drums, catchy melody, smooth vox, and a dirty underbelly with some growling bass.
Track 4: Morgan Geist on the re-rub. He is one half of the duo Metro Area, LOOK THEM UP if you have to ask! More abstract vibe here, driven by some Indian talking drums. Worth playing just for the star power.
Track 5: Bass-driven atmospheric tune, very aptly named. Good for ending a late-night show. Drumbeat supposed to mimic a heartbeat as one drifts off…
