Les Breastfeeders – Les Matins de Grands Soirs
Reviewed by Sadie O., 2/22/07
Hyperactive, energetic French punk/power-pop/60’s rock. I mean, come on – you know you’re gonna love em from the name of the band! Fun, great to pogo to, ear candy. You can hear influences all over the place – not a terribly original sound anywhere, but highly enjoyable.
All in French, doesn’t sound like any FCCs. I love every goddamn track, but if I have to pick, I’d say 7, 10 and definitely 14 are best.
1. 2:28 ***big drum intro, uptempo rock ‘n’ roll w/ fuzzy guitar, great bass. Wheee!
2. 3:00 ***midtempo early Beatles-y loud and punky rock (that could be John screaming). I gotta marry this bassist and breed something…
3. 2:50 ***uptempo punk with chick vocals a la Blondie, farfisa.
4. 2:47 ***bouncy and syncopated uptempo punk-y rock. Appalling guitar solo! Yippee!
5. 0:14 *sweet little bit of nonsense vocal harmonies
6. 2:54 ***anthemic big beat power pop
7. 2:02 ****big chords intro, then uptempo romp – Yah! Yah!
8. 2:01 ***uptempo punk, Ramones-ish music, chick vocals
9. 3:59 ***uptempo punk/power pop
10. 3:03 ****big Who-style power chords – then more fast punky stuff! Dandy total package.
11. 3:20 ***midtempo 60’s psychedelic pop, pretty female vocals and organ.
12. 1:55 ***fast power pop – sitting still is NOT an option!
13. 3:32 ***”The Kids are Alright” with a bit of Stooges.
14. 6:01 *****midtempo, anthemic – with bagpipes! And screaming guitars, while the sweet female chorus goes “pa-pa-pa-pa”….
