Ambient, droney, hypnotic double CD from Kranky stalwarts, trippy masters. Very very Eno’esque, uses layers and loops of classical/orchestral instruments, long tracks that definitely scratch that itch that Music For Airports once did for you long ago. All tracks loop, long phrases. So very narcotic, hypnotic. Tracks follow similar recipes, choose any for the most part.
FCC clean (instrumental), My picks: 1-3, 2-2, 2-8
CD1
1) symphonic tones, very cinematic “opening scene”
2) very Eno’esque, Music for Airports, beautiful lush tones repeating, appearing, giving eachother plenty of space
3) part 2 of the previous really takes hold in its sheer magnificent beauty
4) again, orchestral eno’esque beauty
5) starts off chill but about midway deeper bass kicks and the tone gets pensive
6) orchestral, cinematic again, can’t stop thinking about side two of Eno albums
7) Change of pace: some samples in the intro, deep tones, still lush and beautiful
8) starts sparse, Eno again, but midway grows denser, low end appears well, sill that slow loop
9) slightly drony with some white noise but still that slow Eno’ish loop exists
10) more narcotic looping
CD2
1) more of the same, a bit louder
2) epic looping with strings, inarguably beautiful
3)briefer, with sad cello melodies
4) more orchestral looping
5) again, remaining on theme, a minor dark feel to the lush loops, some samples and piano making it slightly more song-like
6) minor tones, sad cello
7) melody, slow phrasing
8) long but good track, evolves and gets droney and pretty
