Very roots and homegrown unreleased reggae by a producer widely viewed as the inventor of dub. 9 songs and their corresponding “versions” (instrumental b-sides.) Tubby’s production was very dubby to begin with, so the “versions” are what we’d call dub tracks. No toasting – that would have shown up on the 12”, if anything. The “versions” were used to toast over at sound system dances, however. It’s all interesting historical stuff, although probably won’t blow anyone’s socks off. This was released in the UK in 2003, only now released in the US.
No FCCs, although I could only make out some of the lyrics...
1. 3:22 **midtempo roots bubble with a bit of righteous toasting, sincere male singing, rasta business.
2. 3:45 ***downbeat and minimalist skank, lovely vocals.
3. 2:58 ***downtempo and very swingy bubble, another fine singer – understated and very nice indeed.
4. 2:57 *downbeat and rather stoned sounding bubble and vocals.
5. 3:07 **midtempo number by one of Jamaica’s finest singers – not one of his finer efforts but pleasant.
6. 2:51 **midtempo bubble, rasta message
7. 3:04 ***somewhat downtempo bubble – paeon to his producer by Thompson. Different…
8. 3:07 ****downtempo skank with gnarly vocals.
9. 2:51 *** downtempo skank, nice dubby sound, Babylon lyrics.
10. 3:23 **midtempo bubble, version of track 1
11. 3:44 **downtempo, version of track 2
12. 3:01 **downtempo version of track 3
13. 2:55 **downtempo version of track 4
14. 3:00 ***midtempo version of track 5, quite dubby
15. 2:51 **midtempo version of track 6
16. 3:04 **downtempo version of track 7
17. 3:09 **downtempo version of track 8
18. 2:55 ***downtempo version of track 9
