Teresa James & the Rhythm Tramps – The Bottom Line
Reviewed by Sadie O., 6/4/07
Terrific roadhouse blues rock covering an array of subgenres. Ms. James is a fine singer and pianist and has a dandy band. Only one sad song; the rest are seriously fun. Most lyrics are quite clever. Great stuff!
No FCCs detected. I love most of the tracks – check out the stars.
NB: Most tracks end 5-6 seconds early.
1. ****rolling midtempo bluesy strut. Fun lyrics about bottoming out.
2. **slow blues with nice horn section. Lyrics are suggestive in the nicest possible way.
3. **downtempo steady roller.
4. ***downtempo strut with a bit of funky soul feel.
5. **slow soul groove.
6. ****somewhat downtempo Texas-style sashay. Fun lyrics, irresistible sound.
7. ****slow Dixieland horns; swingy beat comes in after 45 seconds, more fun lyrics. The party is definitely on!
8. **gnarly harmonica intro, slow bluesy crawl.
9. ****nice grungy bassy sound, midtempo boogie shuffle. Feelgood stuff, fo sho. The slide guitar is taking no prisoners.
10. *very slow, organ-based, sad blues. A real weeper.
11. ***midtempo funky strut, positive and fun.
12. ****downtempo snaky crawl, slide gets up inside your skin.
13. ****rollicking uptempo roadhouse rocker. Yay! Damn, now I wish it was Friday…
