Local (Oakland) long-running kings of the heavy riff and huge sounding epics. That’s exactly what you get here and it really pays off. This is a much heavier album than the last few (that said, they do a brilliant job with the more introspective, mellow stuff). Yet another reason why this band is so consistently great.
(((((1))))) Riff, riff repeat – slow and vast sound all around.
((((2)))) Spacey effects, slow and reliant on just a few notes then building into a big monolith of doom.
(((((3))))) Beautiful, clean played chords then crushed by gargantuan riffage. Mid-paced and filled with a tight ‘groove’ without going the obvious route.
((((4)))) Noisy, sparse in the first half then opens to a thundering mass of heaviness.
((((5)))) Really trippy interlude with intense voiced spoken word and spacey electronic warbles.
(((((6))))) Steady and resonating as it builds into a seriously rockin’ tempo.
((((((7)))))) Killer! Totally riffy, epic and continually moving outward.
((((8))) Builds up slow then gets seriously loud and pummeling moves to a trippy “space-out” part and then back to the heaviness.
(((((9))))) Another noise & spoken word interlude. This is a real trip. It alludes to the 9 – being the magic number in the Nordic pantheon.
((((10)))) Slow, folksy, introspective number that leaving the bombast for last (but not least).
