The Budos Band – The Budos Band II
Reviewed by Sadie O., 8/27/07
Ultra funky, soulful instrumentals. Amazing horns (I think that’s a tenor sax that really gets up the old bippy), cool keyboards and a fantastic rhythm section – and no silly lyrics to spoil the whole thing – what’s not to love? It’s awesome!
No FCCs – no words. Everything is either GREAT or KILLER.
1. 2:53 **downtempo super-funky strut, kinda Average White Band-ish.
2. 4:49 ***simple bass intro, then Soul Makossa-style groove. Sweet! Big fat horns…
3. 3:35 **farfisa-driven hot Blaxploitation funk strut.
4. 3:40 **midtempo booty-shaker – hand it to the horns!
5. 2:45 ***kinda uptempo, definitely got the Makossa again.
6. 3:40 **extremely slinky (snakey?) with a bit of bossa nova feel. Tingly farfisa solo
7. 3:49 **starts off like “My Girl”, then goes off on a shake – soul-funk.
8. 4:52 **squealing horns intro, then downtempo crawl with shakers, smooth.
9. 3:51 ***complex loungey soundtrack to a scene hipper than most of us can imagine
10. 3:45 **downtempo and supercool. Farfisa, bass and bongos – how can you lose?
