FRANÇOIS CARRIER & MICHEL LAMBERT: Kathmandu
FMR, 2007
LIVE IMPROV DUETS – Recorded at a festival in Nepal, saxophonist Carrier and drummer Lambert show spirit and invention as they ramble merrily about. Although the playing is completely free, it stays mostly within normal sonic bounds (wild overblowing and weird noises kept to a mimimum), so it’s pretty approachable. Generally speaking, the later tracks seem to go farther out.
All pretty good. Take your pick.
1. 7:43 – relaxed sax, active drums
2. 4:59 – spoken intro, then a gallop
3. 5:32 – lightly popping, melodic
4. 3:41 – happy little tune, drifts out
5. 5:00 – exploring sax, spare drums
6. 3:37 – bleating sax, skittery drum
7. 3:49 – cool undulating tune
8. 9:07 – rolls, sneaks; great stuff
9. 5:59 – inquisitive, then calm
10. 4:32 - sax digs in, drums tumble
11. 5:21 – pensive sax, quiet drums
12. 4:05 – skronky sax, busy drums
