Even if you’ve never heard a single one of these songs (and you almost certainly have not), if you were around in the heyday of punk and its offspring in the period covered here – late 70s to early 80s, there is no way you’re not going to feel nostalgic upon listening to this compilation of obscure Scottish post-punk bands. And if you’re too young to have been there, then soak up the aesthetic on display here – self-produced (mostly) guitar-based music that isn’t lo-fi as a gimmick but out of necessity, songs that range from clever and catchy to barely competent but spirited attempts, lyrics that relate the difficult times that Scotland was going through then as well as the usual teenage concerns and the punk/post-punk community that sustained all these bands (for at least a short burst). Unusual and super-cool. Highly recommended.
I feel it would be a violation of the DIY aesthetic for me to prescribe to you individual tracks, but you’ll be glad, for varying reasons, if you play any of these tracks. The 9 bonus tracks are good too – they’re on the CD-R.
