Thao & the Get Down, Stay Down -- We Brave Bee Stings & All
Reviewed by Witz
Upbeat Indie Rock. From DC and San Francisco, Thao & The Get Down, Stay Down get their folky indie rock on in a big way. Sounding like Modest Mouse at times, Page France at others, and even resembling Jane’s Addiction at points, they expand the genre and deliver eleven solid, interesting, layered tracks. The energy that is so great at their live shows can be felt on the album, waiting to be unleashed.
1) Medium paced twangy, plinky, rolling ditty. (2:31)
**2) Catchy, breezy, upbeat song. Modest Mouse sounding. (2:49)
3) Slow, relaxed, nice guitar and vocals. Snaps, too! (3:48)
4) Quick and bluegrassy. (2:08)
*5) Sounds like hanging out-- relaxed and upbeat. (3:14)
**6) Up-tempo, some good changes, catchy vocals. Good clapping part at end. (3:40)
7) Slow and rhythmic. Fairly simple tune, pleasant. (2:52)
8) Medium, thoughtful—horns give it a nice sound. (4:03)
9) More melancholy, slow, “Violet don’t you go…” (2:44)
10) Upbeat and catchy—nice bass line, good vocals.(1:47)
11) Slower, thoughtful sounding—pleasant. Feels like ending track. (2:34)
