Kimya Dawson
Alphabutt
An album of children’s music from anti-folk pioneer / Moldy Peaches alum, Kimya Dawson. Since going solo, Kimya is probably best known for her work on the Juno Soundtrack . She has a low-fi, acoustic twee sound with quick/soft-spoken lyrics that are ‘quirky’ squared. If you are bothered by the quirkiness factor of Kimya, this album is probably not for you, but if you’re into it, then definitely check it out. Most tracks are around 2 minutes in length and a lot of the tracks feature kids singing along and kid-friendly lyrics about various bodily functions (see track 2). Start with starred tracks.
Most of the tracks are sing along
1) Acoustic guitar with toy piano about babies (with toddlers on backing vocals)
2) FCC? The alphabet A-Z with lyrics about various bodily functions (ie z is for farts that smell like the zoo).
3) Sing along, loose folksy style
4) About Louie the Dog, bouncy acoustic guitar and bass with messy drums
5) Folky song features more talk about farts,
6) Layered vocals, no instruments, lots of kiddy sing alongs
** 7) Acoustic song with Kimya’s signature talky vocals more talk about poop
** 8) Another Acoustic song featuring Kimya’s lyrics more so than previous tracks
9) Goofy children’s song about baby teeth
10) Just acoustic guitar with Kimya talking about what she does with her Baby
11) A quick vocal diddy about peepee in the potty.....just shoot me now!
12) Kazoo and messy drums
13) More classic Kimya singing about animals with acoustic guitar and some baby sounds and other random noises.
14) A love song about baby (Little panda bear)
** 15) Acoustic guitar with Layered Kimya vocals. Probably the most serious / least quirky song on the album. Ends with no guitar
