Folksy and Celtic with elements of Yes, CSNY, Modest Mouse and Wishbone Ash minus the flying guitars. Wide variety of instrumentation including horns, banjo, keys and dogs. Band is from the Bay Area. No FCC violations. My favorites are 2, 3, 4, 7.
1. (6:07) Slow/Mid. Ominous instrumentation of strings and percussion with Yes vocal stylings.
2. (8:44) Mid. Prominent keys and percussion; uses ‘start/stop’ passages with a magnetic chorus delivery.
3. (9:10) Mid. Acoustic guitar and banjo reminiscent of CSNY set behind some mysterious and foreboding lyrics.
4. (2:54) Mid. (Instrumental) Modest Mouse-like banjo inside a carnivalistic dreamscape with a barking dog to top it off.
5. (3:45) Slow/Mid. Listed as ‘Musical Fence’ in the liner notes, a xylophone/organ/bells sounding celestial and bizarre.
6. (8:57) Mid. Experimental sounds of firecrackers/clapping within a traditional song structure and a spacey ending.
7. (11:07) Slow/Mid. Dark and brooding, oceanic and mesmerizing with an ancient-sounding spoken vocal, leading to album’s standard vocal delivery; Yes-ish qualities.
8. (10:11) Slow. Acoustic guitar and strings prominent, most ‘radio-friendly' of all tracks, although quite lengthy.
