Two dudes from NYC. Cough. Gaudy, gauzy, over the top orchestral pop. Soouuper saturated sound. Very, very Bowie. Dream pop but thicker, busier. Think: Dipped in syrup. For-the-Oscar Bowie-style Broadway vocals (talent? yes. tact? uh...). There’s something uncomfortably “drama club” about this record. Maybe the godawful operatic lyrics? It gets to be too much at times. I guess they’re going for atmosphere -- I’m not sure what kind. All their promo stuff namechecks Scott Walker, so I will as well.

no FCCs
1. floaty, halfway groovy. audibly shifts dial at least twice (ie, fake endings). weirdly reminiscent of the “pure imagination” song.
2. laid back, low. hand drums, repetitive strummed acoustic, femme backing vocals.
*3. warble effects to start. picks up to pushy snare and fairly straight vocals.
4. deliberate, slow breeze pop. bellsy guitar. upfront power vocals.
5. start at :15. dreamy, sway-worthy waltz. gets a little spacey midway.
*6. mellow, croony bowie goodness. single-strum acoustic + space effects. vocals-centric and slow. nice pick-up for the last minute.
*7. acoustic guitar and blow-out effects. this track’s in a good mood, very chill. gets up to a respectable clip.
8. ooh, vibra slap! insidious southwest twang & tambourine a la, uh, the NBK soundtrack? crawls out into a more straight-ahead middle section.
9. weird/dark. incredibly tame chick-in-bed samples. synth + low vocals with robotic rhythm. ends with pretty piano coda.
*10. slow echoey/trembly electric guitar and vocals to start. plinky and drumless. cool jazzy sax bit midway in.
