Zion Train – Live as One Remixed
Reviewed by Sadie O., 8/15/09
German Roots Reggae, remixed by producers from all over Europe and South America. Ranges from roots almost to dubstep and grime. All very good to excellent. No FCCs detected. Enjoy!
1. 5:01 **downtempo, lowkey intro with electronic backmasking, then nice roots skank instrumental with melodica.
2. 4:44 ***bits of human birdcalls, and jaunty midtempo bounce, dancehall vocals.
3. 5:13 ****dramatic intro with spoken diatribe, then really nice downtempo skank with singing and harmonies. Some fairly deep dub.
4. 4:24 ***spoken intro, slow electronic riddim, almost reggaeton beat, dancehall vocals, damn fine lyrics.
5. 3:39****autoharp and bongos intro, spoken bit, sparse midtempo wiggle – nice sound.
6. 4:48 ****electronic whooshes and singing, formless for first 50 seconds, then uptempo dubby skank. Obligatory song of praise to pot.
7. 5:27 **very slow beat, rather “modern R&B” vibe, very downbeat and relaxed. Gets electronic and dubby after first minute.
8. 4:27 ***pretty little angel choir and horns, then upbeat midtempo dub skank.
9. 3:55 ***emphatic upbeat riddim with syncopation, instrumental.
10. 3:45 ***bit of spoken intro, dubby midtempo skank with smidgeons of dubbed up vocals.
11. 6:39 ***distant trumpets and electronics intro, uptempo syncopated skank with lots of electronics, instrumental.
12. 4:22 ****melodramatic keyboards and horns intro, then very jaunty upbeat syncopated skank with political dancehall vocals. A bit of pretty female spoken word in Arabic.
13. 4:39 ***uptempo riddim with lots of electronic syncopation, female singing.
14. 3:56 ****Latin horns and spoken intro, then uptempo syncopated electronic riddim and mutated dancehall vocals – great noise.
15. 6:34 ****downtempo skank with guitar and keyboards, with doubletime percussion, bits of vocals. Goes all dubbed out at end.
