Dark, experimental, depressing, dissonant, noisy art rock out of Montreal Canada from Carla Bozulich on Constellation Records. Not too far removed from recent Scott Walker releases, this is atmospheric, heavy, and not easy to sit through. Neo-gothic dirges, like something off of Pornography or Mask with better production values and a greater appreciation for noise. Always swelling and drifting along, these songs remain propulsive and well-written, brutal, raw compositions. Awesome stuff. Go see them/her at the Hemlock on December 12th. No FCCs.

*1. Guitar ringing tones, fretboard mangling, horror music, creaking doors, really dark, vocals are dripping in distortion and effects, nihilistic lyrics, slow insistent rhythm framing the chilling, dissonant guitar. (7:35)
*2. Tape effects, light hum, violin, a little warmer, orchestral but still weird, lyrics about dragonflies, uneasy, floating, like an old-time Disney musical number from a narcotic nightmare. (6:18)
3. A little mellow, delicate, multi-tracked vulnerable vocals with direct suicidal lyrics, eerie organs, really pretty, pianos, (5:06)
*4. Faster tempo, rampaging noisy rock onslaught with more complex percussion, intense vocals, distorted guitar sloppiness that is just perfect. Probably the most accessible track. (4:02)
5. Slow strings introduction, strange time signature with drunken stand-up bass, swelling organs and then this nightmarish carnival section comes in. (7:06)
*6. Horns sound a little like Casio keyboards, jazzy bass, definitely reminds me of Scott Walker, almost a tape hiss sounds to the persistent tambourine(?) percussion. (4:15)
7. Funeral organs, atmospherics, no percussion, glacial pace, rumbling undercurrents with glitchy keyboards and guitar experiments, tense, vocals are like some kind of delicate hymn, subtle track. (9:38)
