Well I’m sure as shit glad I keyed/reviewed/added this one personally because had it gathered dust on the review shelf it would have been a crime against humanity: this is indie rock-pop at it finest. So great: male vocals, guitars, pianos, use of effects. Wait, but its not a “look I’m a sensitive singer songwriter piano player” type thing. It just so happens that a piano shows up now and then. Of course, me being me with my brain all liquefied “Phantasm”-like theres a reason I love this: its because he throws curve balls all over the place! Like Neutral Milk Hotel and My Bloody Valentine did; not saying he sounds like them, just saying that he’s bending the genre in such a great way that it makes me happy and I bet it would you too.
1) upbeat 60’s pop TV theme song sorta way, but a dark echoey psyche bent to it keeps it in line
2) sublime simple song with male vocals, just the perfect amount of echo, mid paced and slightly somber
3) upbeat and twisted too, when pop goes wrong
4) brilliant history of mankind in light of religion with an old timey music soundbed, clarinet, really smart
5) wow, some of the background sounds start to flow and flow without ebbing and for a second you think this simple pop song will just explode but it doesn’t, its just great
6) genuine pop song with multifaceted melodies and not much real weirdness, good for that kind of radio show
7) swinging feel to this, slow sway with the boy/girl/transvestite/furry/farm animal of our dreams, don’t mind the poop on the floor, its lovely (cant you tell I want you to play this on kzsu?)
8) goofy pop, again late night 70’s television theme song but all bent
9) slight hic swing and mountain music feel to it, slide dobro guitar
10) upbeat instrumental, the banjo is revealing some trailer park roots to these guys
11) filler pop really, hate to say, shouldve kept the cd down to 8 or 9 tracks
12) fine piano fronted singer songwriter fare
13) upbeat western twang, a love song, oh to be under 30 and hopeful….
14) 51 seconds of a song that is kind of a distillation of this whole guy’s schtick. Perfect afile “requirement” if you wish to get it over-with with style
