Paul O'Dette / Marco Dall'Aquila: Pieces for Lute
This is a controversial recording (of sorts) of solo works by Italian Renaissance lutenist Marco Dall'Aquila (1480-1538) by virtuous lutenist Paul O'Dette (1954-?). The controversy surrounds the end recording conditions following a severe seismic earthquake in early 2009 being recorded in the medieval Castello Piccolomini in the town of Capestrano near L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy. Although, I find this recording quite well performed and resonant for these live spacious conditions. The genuine acoustic beauty of this Renaissance music shines through with ALL tracks worth playing.
