RIYL: The Shins, The Thrills, MGMT
Great filler album, although nothing is a standout. You can’t really go wrong with any of these tracks and none of them run longer than 4 minutes. A lot of tracks sound somewhat like The Shins-esque and have a surf rock feel.
FCC: 9
1. 3:45 Starts with a mid-tempo guitar riff, slightly whiney male vocals. It’s a little repetitive, and not a very exciting intro song. Good if you’re looking for chill background music.
*2. 2:33 More upbeat, faster guitar work. Sounds a bit like the upbeat songs from The Shins. Something you’d tap your foot along to. Some tambourine shaking in the background.
3. 3:33 Slows it down, sounds a bit like a more garage-rock version of MGMT. Feels a little long for a song that’s only 3 and half minutes long.
4. 3:21 Some whiny string work in the beginning, but it’s not annoying. Pretty chill, kind of like driving music with a steady melody. Has a little trippy guitar in the back.
5. 1:44 Mostly acoustic, sounds a bit like surfer rock. Almost like an “it’s end of the summer, let’s go to the beach for the last time” kind of jam.
6. 2:14 Faster pace, feels a little rushed. Surf rock guitar in the second half is exciting.
7. 3:55 A bit more trippy than the other songs on the album and catchier too. There’s a nice instrumental break about 2/3rds into it, which lasts just a little too long, but overall the song has a nice flow to it.
*8. 2:42 Pretty upbeat and catchy, has a fun riff in the middle, keeps your attention decently.
9. 2:41 More like background music, some harmonies, decent melody, some light crooning over his baby.
10. 3:05 Upbeat but not exactly danceable. Scattered guitar jamming in the middle that fades into the background.
**11. 2:48 My favorite song on the album by far. Has a good bounce to it, very pleasant, would mix well with other upbeat Alternative songs, catchy.
Tracklisting:
1. The Stroller 7. Snake Shakes
2. Everyone’s Hip 8. Demon
3. On the Beat 9. Baby I
4. Thank Us Later 10. How’s The Grave
5. Summer Mess 11. That’s How We Burn
6. She’s My Baby
