Eprhyme / Dopestylevsky
By the Ambassador
From Press-kit: Eprhyme (pronounced E-prime) is a Renaissance MC, combining cutting edge cultural expression with consciousness expanding contemporary Jewish commentary. This is his second album, this time on the legendary indie label “K Records.” Beats are courtesy of Smoke of Oldominion. His flows are tight, wordy and very literate. Beats are interesting, combining typical boom-bap with klezmer and middle-eastern samples and some live instruments. FCC Clean. Recommended tracks: #3, #4, #7, #8, #11
1) mostly acapella with strings and wordy, autobiographical rhymes; 2) moogy keyboard and tablas before boom-bap comes in and nerdy/bookworm/religious lyrics; 3)* nice swagger, autobiographical lyrics, boom-bap beats and rock-chorus; 4)* dancehall style on this one with Describe & Y-Love guesting, nice beats with exotic sitar sound; 5) featuring Labtekwon and little disjoined – sounds like at least two different songs – big beats and snarling guitar; 6) prog-hop instrumental; 7)* starts with reggae sample then moves into hip-hop tempo with melodic and righteous lyrics; 8)* Featuring Xperience & Glimpse over a gangsta beat with righteous lyrics and cool horn riff; 9) kinda new-wave sound that sounds more comical then serious – I can’t get down to this – it’s got autotune; 10) featuring Saints of Everyday Failures upbeat track with rapid-fire lyrics and upfront drum beat; 11)* Featuring Darshan with sung intro and looped accordion and casio beat – nice hook about seeing better in the dark.
