Edwards wrote the classic ‘Sunshine’ (‘go away today’) 40 years ago and this is his first release in 14 years. He plays fantastic American music - folk / country / blues type sounds. Instrumentation of guitar, bass, drums, violin, mandolin, harmonica, pedal steel, etc. Great stuff throughout! No FCC’s.
*My Favorites*: 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12.
1. (4:46) Mid. Starts slow and sparse, then builds. Very airy, backing vocals, cool understated mandolin and fiddle.
2. *(3:15) Mid. Written for John Denver. Brushes on drums, nice fiddle.
3. (3:41) Slow / Mid. Title track. Piano intro, nice harmonizing, country flair.
4. (3:35) Mid. Upbeat, bluesy rocker with harmonica, heavy, plodding beat, pedal steel.
5. *(6:42) Slow. Beatles’ ‘She Loves You’, barely recognizable with this very slow arrangement. Piano, percussion and vocals shine. Nice version.
6. *(2:22) Mid / Fast. Nice male / female a cappella to start. Really bluesgrassy / country stylings with fiddle, mandolin, frantic beat, harmonica.
7. *(3:55) Mid. Heavy echoey vocal to start. Vocals, male and female, showcase. Rather sparse, really nice song about the earth, with a heavenly finish.
8. *(4:19) Mid. Really has that old country, almost sea shanty, yet very Americana sound with a penny whistle, fiddle, mandolin. Great stuff.
9. (4:11) Mid. Steady beat, pedal steel, harmonica, country flair.
10. *(4:51) Slow / Mid. ‘Everybody Works In China’ written 20 years ago by Henry Gross (Sha Na Na) finds it’s way here. Easy-going with piano, guitar, drums. Great pedal steel phrase.
11. *(3:16) Slow / Mid. Mellow, rather sparse with great harmonizing, harmonica.
12. *(4:44) Slow / Mid. Mellow marching drum beat, chorus of voices, anthemic song of sorts, very touching and beautiful.
