Dark folk/lo-fi
With these recordings, King Dude offers some gorgeous death-and-doom-oriented folk. These songs consist mostly of acoustic guitar and deep, often multi-tracked vocals. Start with A1, A2, A4, B5. FCC WARNING B4.
*A1. (3:51)—Mid-tempo. Ominous, strummed acoustic guitar riffs with deep, dark, cultish vocals.
*A2. (2:01)—Continues in the same vein as the first song. Some very deep, evil “ohhhhh”s in the refrains.
A3. (2:33)—Vocals start immediately. The music is slightly less doomy than in the previous two tracks.
*A4. (2:25)—Sounds like a sea shanty from hell. Some very pretty cello shows up briefly.
B1. (2:55)—The rhythm is bouncy, but this doesn’t make the song any lighter in tone than the others. Pretty bleak lyrical matter.
B2. (2:18)—This turns out to be a Kinks cover, but it’s as dark as anything here. More upbeat rhythms, this time with the inclusion of a tambourine.
B3. (1:32)—Brief, mid-tempo, waltz-time piece with more ominous vocals.
B4. (1:57)—FCC WARNING (g•••••n). Were it not for the vocals, this would be a very cheery, straightforward folk song. It’s even in the key of C.
*B5. (2:10)—Lovely, slowly strummed guitar. The second half includes whistling and high-pitched keyboards. This sounds like a Disney song gone very, very wrong.
