Rob Crow -- He Thinks He's People -- Temporary Residence LTD
This is Pinback frontman Rob Crow's fourth solo LP. It draws "from murkily precise post-grunge and morose Elliot Smith-esque balladry, cut with hints of hardcore, power-pop, and prog. Crow's laconic delivery gives the LP its distinctive mark; with a calm smirk, he centers the music, allowing a blast of spazz-punk to sit comfortably alongside a bit of intricate acoustic fretwork. Cloudy and labyrinthine at times, airy and placid elsewhere, the album cuts a pretty wide swath, an approach that feels a bit more mature and confident than his earlier solo records." FCC on track 3 and 12
*1. (2:45) Melodic, guitar-oriented post-grunge. Mid-tempo with nice beat to bob to. Smooth verse and crunchy chorus. Standard Pinback
2. (3:21) Slower, morose. Guitars with synths. Flows well. Lyrics about vanity.
3. (2:57) FCC Starts slow. Picks up into acoustic, dark minor chords but with bright chorus. Very much like Elliot Smith.
*4. (3:26) Gentle drum machine, with melodic guitar and echoed vocals. Slightly dark and pensive. Good!
*5. (3:12) Fast, up-beat minor chords. Similar to track 1. Guitar heavy and lots of finger picking, yet simple and clean. Good!!
*6. (1:23) Very fast and distorted. Punk rockish verse and chorus. Short yet complex and layered. Also very good!!
7. (1:05) Slow acoustic. Layered echoed vocals over dark acoustic chords. Pretty and quick.
8. (2:56) Mid tempo electric. Almost 90s Smashing Pumpkins-esque. A little whiny.
*9. (2:38) Up-beat with a good rhythm. Fuzzy guitars. Rock and roll. Catchy chorus. Good!!
10.(2:32) Acoustic, mid-slow. Dark, minor chords. Similar to track 3. A little dull.
**11. (2:10) Pretty up-beat acoustic with beat. Incongruous cynical lyrics. Best track!!
12 (1:46) FCC Slow acoustic. Dark minor chords. Like track 10, 3. Quiet. Slow build-up.
13. (3:18) Mid-tempo. Electric guitar and piano. Slightly morose. Repetitive chorus. Kinda boring.
