Roots Reggae/dub/hip hop/electronica/??? from Canada. Heavier on the roots aspect than a lot of similar stylistically diverse mashups, which is ok by me!
1. 5:16 ***midtempo swingy skank, very rootsy with a light touch on the horn section, fairly dubby, anti-violence lyrics. Turns fully dubby halfway through, lots of syndrum.
2. 4:38 ****swingy downtempo bubble, dubby, fun roots toasting.
3. 4:02 **backmasking and sound collage, slow laid-back skank, cool syncopation and unintelligible female speaking ā perhaps in Japanese?
4. 5:14 ***electronica intro, then downtempo bubble, deep dub, bun dung Babylon lyrics.
5. 3:56 ***slow, yet somehow bouncy, bubble, pretty vocals and horns.
6. 4:29 ****shout out to Jah Herb, very slow and very dubby skank. Hooray!
7. 5:54 ***cute toasting intro, downtempo skank with a bit of boom-bap. Soundman bragging toast. Gets a crazy combination of riddims, including harmonica, for a bit. Goes totally swamp blues for a minute at the end.
8. 4:26 ***midtempo lopassed riddim, sparse instrumentation, crazed toast by Anthony B.
9. 4:43 **slow rootsy bubble, wonderfully off-key singing.
10. 6:04 ****swingy skank with a bit of boom-bap, bit of scratch ānā sniff. Sort of dubby, glitchy, minimalist hip hop. Deeply weird for last minute.
11. 4:13 ***roots downtempo bubble, sweet singing, not very dubby, song of praise to sound system dance.
12. 4:44 ***downtempo bubble with nice bass sound, cool chorus, dub.
