Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2013-08-24
Swirling synths, sparse if heavy drum machine, treated female vocals with a creepiness and urgency that brings to mind the best of Glass Candy. Songs never really take off, remaining collages of swirling vocals and instruments. Overall creepy electro that could be lumped in with goth or experimental synth noise, Wolf Eyes, Mammal, Metalux as well as Dead Can Dance, Laibach even. Hard to pigeonhole, describe track by tracks. Part of some kind of art project and sounds like it. Just check it out.

1) (3:47) trippy echoey synth tones, vocals appear rising from the muck
2) (2:38) vocal centric, slow phrased drama
3) (4:04) urgent and pensive, dark spooky
4) (5:18) sparse, vocals trade with instruments, plod
5) (3:17) disjunct beat, dissonant simple melody phrased vocs, almost songlike
6) (4:21) big drama, cool synths
7) (6:18) pretty and lilting synth melodies and vocs, betray a certain creepiness
8) (3:34) heavier beat, vocals come thru, can identify the human, she sounds foreign (Japanese?) more songlike
9) (5:19) sparse, slower with a descending minor melody, cool and strange with string samples
10) (4:53) songlike, coming through a bit
11) (4:34) this one is most songlike, quite lovely really, slow/mid with nice melodies
