Album Review

Reviewed 2016-11-17
– General Description: Very relaxing. Each languid piece adds to the previous with an angelic finish on the last. UK composer Will Samson, normally focused on singing, improvised using various tape machines (from a microcassette recorder to 1/4” reel-to-reel) to produce these soundscapes. Samson describes the recording thus: “The whole process was about being open and allowing the music to flow out naturally, without letting my analytical mind become involved. To just press record on my tape machines and see what happens.”

– Track Reviews:
1. (4:10) Antepassado - (Ancestor); staticky with long, pulsing drones, drips and drops of tone behind that turn to arpeggiations
2. (2:52) Electric Parade - long tones with bell sounds above, tremolo underpinnings; over much too fast
3. (2:34) Père - (Father); more long tones pulsing with string above wavering and spots of bell tones; flutters at the end; Sound drops off at 2:20
4. (4:28) You Are An Ocean (feat. Benoit Pioulard) - staticky with deeper long, pulsing drones, simple block chord melody on top
5. **(4:04) Lua - (Take); even fuller sounds of deep long, pulsing drones and simple, elegant melody on top, a culmination of the 4 pieces before with an angelic finish
