Lumin – Hadra
World electronic music, very trance-like with haunting female vocals thrown in. According to the CD cover, it’s a local San Francisco group (founded in 1998) fusing Sufi trance, drum and bass with Balkan choir and down tempo grooves. Having never heard a Balkan choir before, I can only say that the rest of the stuff sounds about right.
Track 3 The title track features percussion layered with mournful female vocals.
Track 4 No words just medium tempo crooning.
Track 5 Supposed to be a call to women soldiers, interestingly mellow for a call to arms.
Track 6 This is one of the few tracks without any vocals in it. Interesting use of the tabla (an Indian percussion instrument) throughout.
Track 8 No vocals in this track either. Eerie sounding track with a dhola being one of the main percussion instruments used.
Track 9 showcases the exotic sounding female vocals. This is the track to play if you want to block out everything else and just listen to the voice.
