Jazzy Funky Disco. Recorded in 1976 in Atlanta and Memphis, this record shares some production elements with classic Disco and Philadelphia soul, such as strings and female vocals (provided by Isaac Hayes' backup singers). But there is also a solid Funk groove as well, and the whole album is extremely dance-floor friendly. This is a reissue of a highly sought after rare-groove classic, popular for the tune "Bump and Hustle Music" which has popped up on a couple of compilations. Recommended for fans of funk and disco, some of the lighter tracks are a bit over the top on the disco-cheese meter but tracks 3, 4, 6, and 7 hit hard and will get your booty movin'.
1) Mellow building groover, strings, female chorus
2) *Disco strings, funk guitar
3) **The hit. Pretty much what you'd expect from a song called "Bump and Hustle Music" Up-tempo dance floor killer.
4) **Guitar intro, a bit harder and funkier
5) Lighter pop, a little smooth for my tastes
6) **Harder, funkier shout-out to the Atlanta music scene (ca. 1976)
7) *Flowing, string heavy. Jazzy, sounds like "Places and Spaces" era Donald Byrd
8) Mid-tempo disco
